OUR MUSIC

Our music would never leave us

When the music ruled the airwaves

Air and Ground lost meaning

All became one

This, here, the movement of the body

Meant that we had truly left the harvest at the barn

The chicken could crackle all night

The cows could moo, the cats could purr

The showers of rain would come and go, we would not stop dancing

CONVERSATIONS IN THE WILD

Tell me your story,

So I can understand you

I can’t promise you life wishes

The moon and sky are far for me too

Let me understand the depths of your pain

And the stones life threw at you

A POEM ON SELF-LOVE

I love you, darling

You are star dust,

You are magic

You are, rainbow in the sky

You are phenomenal,

Like a phoenix, you rise, often

You are lit!

Girl, you are. Perfect

You are the story, of a lifetime

You are a story inside a story

WRITING AGAIN

We are back. After a long time of wandering and searching and not finding exactly what we were looking for, we are back.

Well, we found out a few new things, but that is a story for another day.

When I stopped writing, about two years ago, it felt like nothing. It felt justifiable, almost. I had tried, and for some reason, there was a great sense of a lack of direction. I was taking a break. I took it. It was a whooping two years.

ELSIE MUHONJA

image

There are some people you meet and they leave a taste in your mouth. It is not the taste of cherries or strawberries or anything defined really.

They leave your presence but leave traces of theirs behind; pieces of a puzzle, dots to join, some effect that jogs your mind for two seconds or so….”Who is this girl? Where have I seen her before? Do I know her from somewhere? Is she one of those people I am supposed to know?”

This is the precise feeling I had when I first saw Elsie Muhonja. Back then I was completely at loss of any titles to her name or anything essential about her apart from the fact that we lived in the same hostel. Yet from that afternoon when I saw her walking across the stretch of grass outside my hostel to the few other times

SABINA NJERI

Have you ever met someone so incredibly your type you keep wondering “Where have you been all my life?”

Someone who gets you from the word riaaaa(horse language folks).Someone both solid and liquid it’s like taking in air. Beach air. No pain, just pleasure. No disclaimer alerts, just seamless chemistry. Someone with whom there can never be awkward moments. You know like when you are reproducing intelligent  Eurobond jokes to your dad and then suddenly that durex advert comes on telly…that one time  your phone will be charging in faraway lands, last year’s newspaper that is always lying around will go M.I.A  and the remote control will have leprosy. No one will dare touch it. Just that one time. You don’t want to be the bothered one so while the white girl recites how great sex moves her, your black self will maintain like a statue .
